Mariana Abreu received her MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of NOVA University of Lisbon. During her MSc thesis, she worked as a research assistant at Fraunhofer AICOS. Currently, she is a research scientist and PhD student at Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) Pattern and Image Analysis (PIA) research group. Her PhD is entitled "A Multimodal Approach for Predicting and Monitoring Epilepsy", this work is supervised by professor Ana Fred and professor Hugo Silva. At IT, she is involved in the development of machine learning algorithms for understanding multi-source physiological data, particularly for epilepsy seizure prediction and monitoring. Besides epilepsy, her recent work has been also focused on other domain areas, namely in apnea detection for respiratory gating radiotherapy and the analysis of swimming. Her main research interests include Signal Processing, Epilepsy Prediction, Machine Learning and Health Monitoring.
