ELENA ZAMBRANO GONZALEZ
Dr. Elena Zambrano González works as a Medical Science Researcher in the National Institute of Nutrition in Mexico City. Her education: BSc in Chemistry Pharmacobiology, Master Degree and PhD in Science in Biology (National Unversity of Mexico) and Postdoctoral training in the Laboratory for Pregnancy and Newborn Research, College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA. Currently she dedicates to the Development of the Origins of Health and Disease. The studies she and her team carry out are focused on malnutrition during pregnancy and lactation and the effects caused on the progeny at a metabolic and reproductive level. One of the most important finding she has obtained in this regard is the already published study of the transgenerational passage of obesity and insulin resistance induced by maternal protein restriction. Her working group also incorporated a new line of research related to maternal obesity and its effects on the offspring, the findings highlight the importance of maternal interventions prior to pregnancy as a preventive measure. She has published over 100 peer reviewed research articles and led more than 30 thesis of undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Zambrano has received a number of awards including the Alfonso Rivera Prize for Research in Nutrition and Endocrinology, Pan American Bimbo Award, Nutrition Research Award by Nestlé and the Mexican Health Foundation.
