HELIO CESAR SALGADO
Full Professor working in Medical Physiology at University of São Paulo (Department of Physiology, Medical School of Ribeirão Preto, Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil). My background is in Cardiovascular Physiology. My long carrier involved studies of baroreceptor function in several pathophysiological models (hypertension, diabetes, heart failure) in rats. For the past ten years, I have been working on electrical stimulation of the aortic depressor nerve in conscious rats, while in the last two years I have been doing the electrical stimulation of the carotid sinus of healthy and myocardial infarcted rats. In addition, I have been working also with the stimulation of the vagus nerve and the aortic depressor nerve, in conscious rats, examining the benefic effect of the electrical stimulation upon the inflammatory responses caused by LPS and zimosan.
